Dual Language Immersion at Mount Logan Middle School - A Success Story!
This is the first year that Mount Logan Middle School has incorporated a Dual Language Immersion program. Students in the DLI program take two courses taught in Portuguese by a teacher fluent in both English and Portuguese. We currently have 56 students enrolled in the program.
These students have been enrolled in the DLI program since they were in elementary school. Dual Language Immersion is a different dynamic in middle school. Because students only take two classes a day as opposed to the full school day like they did in elementary school, it opens up opportunities for them to take other classes. Our students are glad to continue learning Portuguese with the cohort they've been with throughout elementary school, but they are also excited to interact with new peers in other 6th grade classes.
Our DLI program is going very well. We are excited to implement a second DLI program next year, this time in Spanish. Our DLI students and their teacher, Mrs. Carlos-Ondrusek, are awesome!
